Paul Dano is an award-winning director and actor of stage and screen. He will next appear in Matt Reeves’ The Batman alongside Robert Pattinson, Colin Farrell, and Zoe Kravitz as the famed character, The Riddler. Dano has worked with some of the finest filmmakers on films such as Bong Joon Ho’s Okja; Paolo Sorrentino’s Youth, which was nominated for the Palme d’Or at the Cannes International Film Festival; Denis Villeneuve’s Prisoners; Steve McQueen’s 12 Years a Slave, which won BAFTA, Golden Globe, and Academy Awards; Rian Johnson’s Looper; Paul Weitz’s Being Flynn; Kelly Reichardt’s Meek’s Cutoff; Spike Jonze’s Golden Globe-nominated Where the Wild Things Are; Rebecca Miller’s The Ballad of Jack and Rose; and Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris’ Ruby Sparks and Little Miss Sunshine. Dano starred in the BBC television drama miniseries, War and Peace, directed by Tom Harper. He won a Critics’ Choice Award for Best Young Actor for Little Miss Sunshine and received nominations for the Gotham Independent Film Award for Best Actor for his portrayal of The Beach Boys’ Brian Wilson in Love & Mercy, an Emmy for Ben Stiller’s Showtime miniseries Escape at Dannemora, and BAFTA Best Supporting Actor for Paul Thomas Anderson’s There Will Be Blood.

Dano made his directorial debut with the critically acclaimed film Wildlife, which premiered at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival, opened the 2018 Cannes Film Festival’s Critics’ Week, and showed at the Toronto International Film Festival that same year. Adapted from Richard Ford’s American classic, Dano co-wrote the screenplay alongside Zoe Kazan. Wildlife stars Carey Mulligan and Jake Gyllenhaal and was nominated for multiple Independent Spirit Awards including Best First Feature, Best Female Lead, and Best Cinematography. In 2007, Dano starred in Ethan Hawke’s off-Broadway directorial debut, Things We Want, alongside Peter Dinklage, Josh Hamilton, and Zoe Kazan. In 2019, he starred alongside Ethan Hawke in the Broadway production of Sam Shepard’s True West.
